The funny thing about the finals matches played in the WAFL over the weekend was the winners dominated play but just fell over the line. Continue reading

The view from the couch Subiaco vs West Coast on Ch 7.
Round 16 was the last of the bye weekends in the WAFL with three games played. The most significant result, on the surface, was Subiaco’s thumping win over West Coast. The Eagles were beginning to look a bit scary with wins over East Fremantle (72 points), South Fremantle (22), Peel (48) and West Perth (69) in their last four outings. Continue reading

Kyal Horsley at Bassendean in 2018. He looks pretty much the same this year but wears a different number.
Moments before three quarter time at Bassendean Oval Swans led by 22 points. Subi kicked a goal after the siren and 5.6 to 0.2 in the last quarter to make it 27 wins in a row. Josh Deluca was good all day for the Lions while Kyal Horsley and Leigh Kitchen led the fightback. Tony Notte was magnificent for Swan Districts especially as his team crumbled in the last quarter. We had a bit of extra time so we commissioned an oil painting of an iPhone photo by John Menzies of a Tom Lee mark at Leederville Oval.
In the early Good Friday game at Leederville the Lions led all day but needed to dig deep to shake off West Coast. Rhys Waters kicked three goals for Subiaco. Continue reading
