Gisborne locks in third spot by RICHARD JONES

GISBORNE locked in a 2014 finals double chance with an eight-point win over Golden Square, its major challenger for third spot, on Saturday. In an absolute cracker of a contest at MyJet Oval, the Gardiner Reserve Dogs fought back from a 25-point deficit at the last change to boot five, unanswered final quarter goals and snatch a thriller. Midfielders Isaac Trickey, Tom May and Shaun Comerford didn’t stop running for the entire game and contributed five goals between them in the 14.12 (96) to 13.10 (88) victory.

Spoon the WAFL interest
WAFL round 16…
Tricky mathematics aside, the main interest left in the WAFL season is in who might take out the wooden spoon. A win by Peel in round 16 has put the spotlight on Perth who lost to another spoon contender South Fremantle. West Perth’s inability to win at home meant they couldn’t take a step towards fourth place and time is running out.
