Tigers cause another upset

WAFL round 17…

IT started out as a ho-hum round in the WAFL but it ended up having plenty of meaning with Swans losing to Claremont and losing second place to Subiaco.

At the Showgrounds Jack Bradshaw kicked seven goals to be the star in Claremont’s come-from-behind victory in a thriller. Swan Districts led by 27 points at three quarter time but the Tigers came home with a rush. Brendan Abbott kicked five goals for Claremont, Luke Blackwell was outstanding and Mark Seaby controlled the ruck. Tony Notte was in great form for Swans and Tim Geappen kicked four goals.

Claremont 14.13 (97) Swan Districts 14.10 (94)

It was close until three quarter time at East Fremantle Oval but the home team scored 5.6 to 3.0 in the last quarter to seal a win and make a finals place look even more secure.
Bradd Dalziell and Rory McLean were again in very good touch for the Sharks while Brett Peake and Jack Perham kicked three goals each. Edward Dann was Peel’s best player, Tom Sheriden was good in the midfield and Alex Pearce again looked poised in defence.

East Fremantle 14.14 (98) Peel 11.8 (74)

It was raining goals at Leederville and Subiaco kicked 10 in the last quarter in a 73-point win over Perth. Shane Yarran kicked six goals and Rhys Waters five for the Lions, Kyal Horsley was brilliant in the midfield and Andrew McDougall superb in the ruck. Cameron Manuel, who kicked three goals, was the best of the Demons.

Subiaco 27.9 (171) Perth 15.8 (98)

The ladder: East Perth 48; Subiaco 44; Swan Districts 44; East Fremantle 40; West Perth 24; Claremont 24; South Fremantle 16; Perth 12; Peel 8.

Next week East Perth play West Perth at Leederville but on Tuesday night West Perth play Williamstown at Kardinia Park in the Foxtel Cup grand final. Claremont play East Fremantle at the Showgrounds; it’s South and Subi at Fremantle and Swans hosting Perth at Bassendean.
