Two of the toughest road trips in FIDA football are those to Ballarat to meet 2013 Premiers North Ballarat Roosters, and to Seaford to take on the powerful Kananook Bulls. After an outstanding win against the Roosters at home at The Fearon in Round 2, Williamstown Seagulls made the long journey down the Nepean Highway to face the club they have only beaten once previously – in the 2013 Semi-Finals.

On a cold and wet day Wyndham jumped out of the blocks early against reigning premiers North Ballarat to record its first win in Division 1. The Tigers, Division 2 premiers last year, had a very handy 25 point lead at half-time, which they increased even as the weather got worse. Continue reading

Bendigo Football League round five
KYNETON scored one of the most astonishing victories of the 2014 Bendigo league season to date, holding on to beat Golden Square by seven points in Saturday’s MyJet Oval match.
The Tigers held the Bulldogs to a trifling 2.11 by three-quarter time while posting 7.8 with one term to play.
Even though Square booted five goals with the breeze in a pulsating final quarter, Kyneton managed two majors in reply to hold on for their second win of the year: 9.8 (62) to 7.13 (55). Continue reading

THE Anzac Day games attracted pretty good crowds (about 3,500 each) and it remains difficult to pick a winner in the WAFL. The only constant is that Peel can’t win. And speaking of picking winners, Swan Districts, the popular pick for the wooden spoon, are now sitting in second place on the ladder.

In what was meant to be the battle of the gold sash, Williamstown defeated Richmond by 70 points in the round three VFL game at Williamstown.
The signs were ominous for the Tigers when the game was shifted from their Punt Road Oval late in the week due to the club not yet having an occupancy certificate for its refurbished grandstand.
Then, when the players ran onto the Morris St ground they were wearing their alternate jumper – gold with a black sash, the same combination they wore when Footscray defeated them by nearly 20 goals two weeks ago. Williamstown, as it has for most of its 150 years, wore royal blue with a gold sash.
Richmond began the game brightly with a goal in the first minute but the Seagulls, with the wind at their backs, were leading by four goals at quarter time and increased the margin each quarter.
Final scores: Williamstown 19.15 (129) Richmond 8.11 (59)

Williamstown will face a sterner test next Sunday when they play Port Melbourne at home. Former Hawthorn premiership teammates Andy Collins (Williamstown) and Gary Ayres (Port Melbourne) will be both be coaching, wired for sound, from the boundary.
Richmond is expected to be reviewing its jumper policy.
GISBORNE just managed to hold off a charging Tigers’ side to win a Good Friday Bendigo Football League thriller at the Kyneton Showgrounds by 10 points.
In front of a massive crowd and unable to buy a goal in the first three quarters, Kyneton added 5.5 in a gripping last quarter while holding the Bulldogs goalless.
Nonetheless, with 10 fewer scoring shots the Dogs sneaked over the line: 13.8 (86) to 9.22 (76). Continue reading
