A thriller and an upset

The WAFL season got a bit more interesting after the completion of round five.

At Joondalup South Fremantle pulled off the upset of the season when, inspired by seven goals from Ben Saunders, they led the home team all day and beat West Perth by 23 points. Craig White showed he’s enjoying his return to the forward line by kicking four goals, Timothy Kelly was effective in the midfield along with Haiden Schloithe, Brock Higgins controlled the ruck and Dylan Ross was impassable at full back.

Rohan Kerr and Jay Van Berlo did their jobs well in the midfield for the Falcons. It was Andrew Krakouer’s first game for West Perth – his only kick was a goal.

South Fremantle 15.8 (98) West Perth 10.15 (75)

At Lathlain Park Perth got out to a two-goal lead early in the last quarter but went down by a point to Swan Districts – it was the kind of loss that ruined 2013 for the Demons.

Adam Faulkner was outstanding for Swans, Ryan Davis continued his great form and kicked three goals as did key forwards Tim Geappen and Ricky Cary.

Mitch Morton was good for Perth as was the smooth moving Michael Florio, Gerald Ugle provided good run from defence and Matthew Moody kicked three goals.

Swan Districts  14.8 (92) Perth 13.13 (91)
