I haven’t checked but reckon this is the first time Peel and Swan Districts have shared the top two spots on the WAFL ladder. Many felt the reigning premiers would stumble this year after everything fell into place in 2016 but they’ve started the season with two powerful victories. Looking back at our sports grounds

Even in the very early days of the Swan River Colony there was a need for a sports ground on which to play cricket, run horse races and other contests. Initially a piece of flat, relatively clear ground in East Perth, roughly where Queens Gardens is today, was used for cricket and horse races were run on the downs in Fremantle. Slowly, as the population grew, better facilities for various sports were developed.   Continue reading

Lots of Dockers have played in WAFL premierships

THERE’S the potential for 17 Fremantle-listed players to add a WAFL premiership to their CVs on Sunday. They won’t be the first. In fact two of Peel’s team have already played in the winning WAFL grand final while on the Fremantle list – Clancee Pearce (Swan Districts, 2010) and Nick Suban (Claremont, 2012). Subiaco coach Jarrad Schofield was on the Fremantle list when he played in a premiership for the Lions in 2006. Continue reading
