The season is over. The Hawks won the flag, Fyfe won the Brownlow, Rioli won the Norm Smith and the clubs have honoured their finest. The four-way tie at Brisbane muddies things a little but here are some figures: 12 of the winners originate from Victoria, four from WA, two from Queensland and one each from South Australia and Tasmania. Seven of the winners (three Lions) are at their second club and one (Patrick Dangerfield) is leaving.

There was a time not that long ago when WA footy fans pitied Subiaco. Poor buggers could barely win a game let alone a premiership. Times have changed – the Lions have appeared in nine of the past 13 WAFL grand finals and won six premierships in that time. No one has Subiaco as their second team anymore, they’re about as cuddly as Hawthorn. Continue reading →
