A look at Hotel Mumbai (MA)
I daresay it’s a tad gruesome to watch a movie depicting terrorists slaughtering hotel guests a mere 24 hours after the horrific shootings in Christchurch. But that’s what we did on the weekend as we took in the movie about the attacks in Mumbai towards the end of November 2008. Continue reading

Fremantle’s Parris Laurie outnumbered by Cats & umps. All photos by Les Everett.
It was hot at Kardinia Park on Saturday. Both teams were tired by three quarter time but the Geelong huddle revealed something else. They were buggered. The spirit had been drained out of the Cats by the relentless Dockers. Time and time again Geelong players who had every right to think they were about to send their team forward were dragged down in strong tackles. Continue reading
A look at Stan & Ollie (PG)
I didn’t know until this week that Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy reprised their comedy act after World War 2. In 1953, in fact, when they toured England and Ireland. I knew only of their black and white comic movie romps from the 1930s and they presumably kicked off even earlier – in the Twenties. Continue reading

2018 and the Rat walks into a 1-star Michelin restaurant in Tokyo and orders the set menu. The chef asks would you like wine pairing or vinyl pairing? It is a no brainer. Continue reading

All eyes on Ebony. All photos by Les Everett.
The Dockers were in complete control but still the feeling of calm satisfaction that had overcome me was surprising. Then I realised the extra element – the sound system was down. No mindless music after home-team goals, no exaltations to MAKE SOME NOISE. Just crowd noise, real footy atmosphere. Continue reading
A look at The Mule (R)
Summer’s the time of year when I seem to watch a heap of late evening re-runs on the Fox Classics TV movie channel. Continue reading

Sabreena Duffy gets her kick away. All photos by Les Everett.
I was walking into a howling wind on the way to Fremantle Oval so I knew what kind of a game it would be. Continue reading
A look at The Favourite (R)
I don’t think I’ve ever sat through a movie which boasts 10 Academy Award nominations. But director Yorgos Lanthimos has produced a masterpiece where the nominations cover just about every possible category. Continue reading
