It was inevitable Subiaco would fall away after appearing in six consecutive grand finals from 2013.  They missed the finals in 2020 but the bad times are over and the Lions are back.

At Leederville Oval on Saturday in the WAFL second semi final Subiaco had all the answers. South Fremantle scored the first goal, the Lions got the next eight. The damage was done in the first quarter when Greg Clark, Harrison Marsh, Hayden Kennedy, Jack Mayo (two goals) and Lachlan Delahunty really turned it on. As the game went on the efforts of Liam Hickmott and Ben Sokol (three goals) were also significant.

The Bulldogs made a bit of a charge in the third quarter but they had too many players who did very little. Zac Strom and Matthew Parker were outstanding.

Subiaco 11.7 (73) South Fremantle 8.3 (51)

In the first semi final at Claremont Oval it seemed West Perth had done enough when they slipped away to a four-goal lead during the third quarter in a low-scoring game. However the home team found something and dominated the closing stages.

Callum England kicked four goals in an energetic and damaging display for Claremont, Jye Bolton capped a powerful performance with a vital goal from 60 metres in the last quarter, Ben Edwards has important in changing the tone of the game, defender Jack Lewsey got the run going while Jason Carter, Bailey Rogers and Dylan Smallwood were also useful.

West Perth seem to have a habit of fading for periods of games – this time it was fatal. Defender Sam Rotham was superb, Shane Nelson battled hard and Aaron Black played well despite some questionable tactics employed to limit his influence.

Claremont 14.8 (92) West Perth 10.8 (68)
