STRATHFIELDSAYE key forward Lachlan Sharp snagged an incredible 17 goals in the Storm’s massive 158-point belting of Castlemaine on Saturday. Sharp actually finished the match at Storm’s Tannery Lane home ground with 17.11 as he posted the highest total since Grant Weeks’ 21 for Golden Square against Kyneton in 2012. “It’s a nice feeling to kick 17, but all the credit has to go to the players up the field,” Sharp told reporters on Saturday night. Upset results are a sign of a healthy competition and in round eight of the WAFL season three teams beat opponents above them on the ladder and Subiaco played out their version of an upset – someone was close to them at three quarter time. Continue reading
LODDON Valley was the only one of five central Victorian leagues to win on AFL Victoria’s community footy championships weekend. The LVFL, listed down the bottom of the statewide rankings at 32, downed Golden Rivers (31) by 44 points at the QEO. Continue reading

Wrap of Bendigo footy, round three…
South Bendigo opened its 2018 winning account with a 43-point win over Maryborough at Princes Park on Saturday. The winless Magpies stretched South all the way closing the gap to just 13 points seven minutes out from half-time. But the Bloods added seven goals to three after half-time to eventually win by 43 points. In other games Sandhurst restricted Kangaroo Flat to a single goal for four quarters of work at the night QEO match while Golden Square held Castlemaine to just two majors under lights at the Camp Reserve. Eaglehawk rebounded from an ordinary opening three quarters with a nine-goal last quarter burst against Gisborne while in the league’s third night game Strathfieldsaye overcame Kyneton’s daunting home ground advantage to register a 17-point victory.
