South get up in thriller down south

South Fremantle had scored 13 times to four in the first half but led by just 14 points over Peel down at Rushton Park. The lack of value for effort told in the second half and it took a goal at the 25 minute mark of the last quarter by Nick Suban to secure victory. Mason Shaw kicked four goals for the Bulldogs. Cam McCarthy kicked three goals and Harley Bennell two for Thunder as his comeback continues steadily.

In the TV game from Bassendean Swan Districts led 3.4 to 0.3 at quarter time but then something familiar happened. Swans have a way of forgetting how to play for periods of every game and while it stayed close until the middle of the last quarter Claremont always looked like winners. Tom Lee, well held by Tony Notte for the most part, kicked four late goals to finish with five, Kane Mitchell was brilliant in the midfield and Ryan Lim was damaging.
