A footy weekend by Les Everett

I attended two games on the weekend.

On Saturday afternoon my local team played something called the Sons or something. A lot of our players do voluntary work at the hospital on Saturdays so at half time the coach asked our goal umpire Mr Mundy if he would play. Mr Mundy is very old but better than everyone and so we won.

On Sunday afternoon I popped down to Fremantle Oval to see South Fremantle play my team East Perth in the WAFL. Unfortunately for me that game was being played at Leederville Oval. But I watched the last quarter of the WAFLW game between South Fremantle and Swan Districts which was being played at Fremantle Oval. Swans are good and won easily but the Bulldogs had a few impressive moments.

Fortunately for East Perth (9th) they knew their game was at Leederville and they beat South Fremantle (3rd). It was Nathan Blee’s 150th game.

East Perth 8.11 (59) South Fremantle 8.6 (54)

There was nearly an upset on Saturday at Claremont Oval too. Peel (7th) led Claremont (2nd, now 1st) for most of the day but a couple of late goals from Jack Buller got the Tigers home. Luke Valente played his best game for Peel.

Claremont 14.6 (90) Peel 12.11 (83)

Coming up this Saturday: Swan Districts vs West Perth; Subiaco vs West Coast; Perth vs East Fremantle. And no AFL games in Perth.
