High scoring FIDA by Rob Klemm

FIDA

Sunday 2 May – FIDA round three
Div 3/4: Mazenod v Williamstown

It was a beautiful day for FIDA football and we saw a terrific Div 3 /4 match at Central Reserve, Glen Waverley.

Despite the Seagulls coming off a tough encounter against Geelong last week and carrying a few injuries and unavailabilities, we were still able to put a full team out on the park.

Mazenod generously lent us a rotation of players, to extend the challenge, and our Seagulls stepped up to task.

A number of players achieved Personal Bests, including Laurie and Leah with two goals each, Axeman and Daryl with a big “Sausage roll” each and Phillip with his first score.

Matt did some good work in the ruck, Chris made sure everybody was brought into the game and the two Sams were hard at the ball. Daniel marshalled the backline, Shannon gave lots of run from defence, while Luke and Frank were brave all day.

Josh D, Josh W and Mason showed how much progress they have made with their football in the recent years.

Thanks to runner Jack, debutant goal umpire Peter, scorer Nicole, Trent and Carla for individual orange and lolly packs and Sheryl for minding the valuables.

And, of course, the biggest thanks of all go to Lainey who coached a great game.

Final scores: Mazenod 15.11 (101) defeated Williamstown 10.4 (64)

This is our the first time we have reached double figures in goals and our highest score for 2021.

As it was Umpire Appreciation Week, we lastly thank the umpire, who was doing his first FIDA game. He showed he will be a valuable asset to the competition.
