Scoreboard MCG

Scoreboard pressure...

IT occurred to me during the first grand final of 2010 that the main scoreboards at the MCG are no longer scoreboards – they're big TV screens. If you want to know the score you look to the digital strip versions that resemble, at least in purpose, the fence level scoreboards that once graced the MCG.
On a day when just getting a kick was an achievement there wasn't a lot of action on the scoreboard but the pressure mounted with each addition – whether following a trademark Travis Cloke miss or trademark Brendan Goddard specky.
As Collingwood and St Kilda slogged it out in the last quarter all 100,000 spectators stole numerous glances at those strip boards.
So while the big screens showed the action the stark story was told elsewhere.
