Zaharakis on the rise
The round two Rising Star nominee...
IT took little time for David Zaharakis to make an impact in the AFL and it came as little surprise to talent watchers. He was captain of Vic Metro in the AFL 18s Championships last year and made the All Australian team. He was also named in the TAC team of the year after an outstanding season for the Northern Knights.
Essendon picked him up at 23 in the draft and after the impressive debut of Michael Hurley (pick five) in round one the Bomber recruiters must be on good terms with themselves. Zaharakis is the Rising Star nominee for round two.
He was prominent from the start in his AFL debut against Fremantle at Docklands on Sunday. He showed a great willingness to be involved and played with great energy. He made 21 disposals for the game including an impressive seven inside 50s.
Zaharakis grew up supporting Essendon. The 19-year old is from Eltham Football Club and Marcellin College.
