Swan Districts win the WAFL preseason competition for the second year in a row...

IT wasn't the best sign for the WAFL when the teams from last September's grand final lined up to decide the preseason competition title. However, at least the result was different.
Despite being drained of resources by the AFL draft Swan Districts showed they'll be around the place in 2009 with a 43-point win over Subiaco at Bassendean Oval.
Swans took control early and scored five goals to none in the first quarter.
Youngster Lewis Jetta impressed for Swans, and gave notice that the flow of young talent hasn't dried up, Llane Spaanderman was strong in the ruck, surprise recruit Matthew Carr was in good touch and Tallan Ames was strong in defence.
Robert Forrest and Chad Cossom were the best of the Lions.
Proceeds from the WAFL preseason competition went to the Victorian Bush Fire appeal.

The real WAFL season starts on Friday night when South Fremantle host Swan Districts and Subiaco play Claremont at Leederville Oval. On Saturday afternoon East Fremantle are at home to Peel and it's a Perth derby at Joondalup.
