Swans sneak into second

WAFL round 20...

WITH most art lovers heading to the Matthew Pavlich Exhibition at Subiaco Oval the WAFL's decision to hold just two games seems to have been a good one. The fact that the three bottom teams were involved was just a bonus.

On Saturday Swan Districts were 10 goals in front of Peel by half time and they didn't let up. The final margin was 99 points and the win took Swans into second place on the ladder – they have played one more game than the others in the top four. Ashley Hansen kicked six goals, midfielders Shaun Hilderbrandt, Tom Roach and Marlon Motlop maintained their fine form and Tallen Ames was in control in defence. Kristin Thornton kicked three goals for Peel.

Swan Districts 22.14 (146) Peel 7.5 (47).

It was tight for most of the day at Fremantle Oval with South Fremantle pulling away with six goals to three in the last quarter to move away from wooden spoon discussions for the moment. Ben Saunders kicked six goals in another impressive effort for the Bulldogs, Alex Grima and Ryan Cook were effective midfielders, Sean Tighe's work around the ground as a ruckman was impressive and Jayden Woods kicked three goals. Simon Tunbridge kicked four goals for Perth in his best performance at senior level while Julian Jacobs and Leon Davis provided plenty of run.

South Fremantle 16.12 (108) Perth 12.12 (84).

The ladder: Claremont 48; Swan Districts 48; East Fremantle 44; East Perth 42; West Perth 34; Subiaco 24; South Fremantle 20; Perth 20; Peel 16.

Next week: Swans have the bye, there's a Fremantle derby at East Fremantle Oval, East Perth and Perth meet again, Claremont host Peel and West Perth meet Subiaco.
