Perth upset Lions Peel upset fans

WITH three games decided by a kick or less and a round where many tipsters would have picked no winners round six has provided the WAFL with another big boost.

At Lathlain Park Subiaco led for most of the day but Perth were in control for most of the second half. The problem for the Demons was that they couldn't kick straight. The opportunities kept coming due to an outstanding midfield that included Ross Young, Sam Butler and Nick Lower along with neat set up from Leon Davis and Matthew Tedesco. More influential than all of them was Simon Donovan who kicked four goals. Antoni Grover was outstanding in defence for the Lions, Aidan Parker had another good game, George Hampson was in everything and Brant Chambers kicked four goals.

Perth were the only home team to win.

Perth 10.16 (76) Subiaco 11.7 (73).

East Perth were due to win a close one and they held off East Fremantle to win by four points. Garry Moss was the best player on the ground and constantly set up scoring opportunities. Josh Smith and Brett Eades each kicked four goals.

Robert Young kicked five goals for the Sharks and midfielders Mark McGough and Rory O'Brien worked hard.

East Perth 14.9 (93) East Fremantle 13.11 (89).

A late goal from Ashely Hansen in his first game for the season got Swan Districts over the line again top team Claremont. Marlon Motlop had his best game for the season while Shaun Hilderbrandt, Josh Roberts and Matt Riggio gave great support. Kane Mitchell was tireless for the Tigers, Paul Medhurst set things up well for the forwards and Ian Richardson kicked three goal.

Swan Districts 11.10 (76) Claremont 9.16 (70)

Just when it seemed Peel was in revival mode they were sunk by an eight-goal second quarter by South Fremantle in front of their disappointed home fans at Rushton Park. Kris Miller led the midfield for the Bulldogs, Andrew McCarrey enjoyed a move into attack and kicked five goals, Ben Saunders and John Sgherza each kicked four and Josh Head and Jordan Wilson-King provided excellent run from defence. Brad Holmes kicked four goals for the Thunder and Matt Orzel's efforts should have inspired his team mates.

South Fremantle 23.17 (155) Peel 12.10 (82).
