Vote for the future

May 03, 2011

South Australian Cricket Association poll…

SACA members have voted in favour of a massive redevelopment of Adelaide Oval. A 75% majority was required to pass the proposal and over 80% voted in favour.
The project has great significance for football with AFL games certain to be played at the revamped facility. It was a matter of survival for the struggling Port Adelaide Football Club.
Port president Brett Duncanson said: “This provides our club with the breakthrough strategy it needs to become financially independent and secure, and to become truly competitive with the richer clubs in the AFL. In significantly improving the financial returns to both AFL clubs in South Australia, it also underpins football across the State from the grass roots upwards.”
Playing AFL games at the historic oval will make Adelaide a popular spot for the increasing number of footy tourists. Adelaide Oval is a short stroll from the CBD and will be the best located AFL venue in the country.
